SHOWstudio review on 11 April 2007

Last night I was privileged to attend a SHOWstudio revue held at Three Rooms 15 Hanbury Street EC1. The space, converted specially for a wide range of events by Sony to coincide with the launch of PS3 is a fabulous colorful space packed with hi-tec goodies, a bar, chill out zone and various places for performances, displays and generally hanging out.

Around 60 guys and gals from SHOWstudio and their guests, coming from a wide spectrum of the fashion and creative industries quaffed wine, chatted, ate finger food, played with the PS3's and observed or took part in a range of tableaux. neon roulette, a novel version of striptease, singing and dj grooves. Guests were provided with Sony cybershot cameras and HD video cameras which will later be edited into a movie. The event was livestreamed on SHOWstudios website as well.

As you can see I took my own camera as well and more of my snaps can be seen on: http://www.lubomirski.co.uk/showstudio/. I also took my Sony HDV Handycam with me and aim to produce my own edited movie in due course - so watch this space!

“SHOWstudio is based on the belief that showing the entire creative process—from conception to completion—is beneficial for the artist, the audience and the art itself.”

Portrait with Nikon 85mm F1.4

I took these photos of my fellow photographer Marek Wezdenko with my Fuji Finepix S5 Pro and the Nikon 85mm F1.4 lens at F1.4 and was rather pleased with the result. The narrow depth of field and good bokeh works well in this relaxed portrait.

In Black and White a more graphic interpretation is achieved.

Finally taken the following day with the same lens a cat's eyes reflected Marek's portrait in some way, so I put them together.

Kubrick 2001 The Monolith - Lubomirski 2007 The Monolith Returns!

I have been a fan of Stanley Kubrick's amazing film 2001, since it first came out and even own the DVD which I am drawn to watch at least once or twice a year.

Imagine my surprise to find the key artefact in it - THE MONOLITH, had reappeared in dreary old Fulham!!

and with a strange baby monolith lying supine - on top!

The ideas behind it all are revealed in Kubrick2001 The space odyssey explained in an entertaining and graphic manner. A 2001 A Space Odyssey Internet Resource Archive is also well worth visiting.

But what part of man's future now depends on this monolith in Fulham Broadway!!??
